HOW DO I BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
Have you ever wondered about the Christian faith and how to become a Christian. Today we answer the question, “How do I become a Christian?”
1. God loves us with an unconditional and indescribable love
John 3:16 says,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
2. Every single person sins and this separates us from God
Romans 3:23 which says,
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
Isaiah 59:2
“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear”.
3. God takes sin seriously and there’s a penalty for sin – death
Romans 6:23 says,
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
4. Because of God’s great love for us He doesn’t want even one of us to be lost
2 Peter 3:9 says,
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”.
5. Repent of your sins and receive Jesus by faith
1 John 1:9 says,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”.
John 1:12 says,
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
Remember that God’s standard is holiness. Not one of us can make that standard because we are sinners. Therefore, in and of ourselves it’s impossible for us to be reconciled to God.
JESUS RECONCILED US BACK TO GOD THROUGH HIS DEATH ON THE CROSS
However, because of His great love for us, God made a way for us to be reconciled to Him. Through His son Jesus, He paid in full once and for all the price for sin for all of mankind through His death and resurrection. Therefore, if you repent (turn away from your sins) and receive by faith forgiveness for your sins and Jesus as your Lord and Saviour you will be saved. As a result, Jesus has paid for your sins in full. The cross is the place of exchange. Here we exchange our filthy robes of sin and unrighteousness with Jesus and receive His clean robes of righteousness. What an incredible and undeserved gift salvation is. It’s fully based on the work of Jesus and not our own attempts to try to be right with God.
You can pray this prayer to give your life to Jesus:
The Sinner’s Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to you today to confess that I am a sinner and that I have sinned against you. I ask you please to forgive me and cleanse me of my sins. I turn away from my sins and ask you to come into my heart. By faith, I receive you now as my Lord and Saviour, and thank you that I am adopted into your family now. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray, Amen.
6. Now you are adopted into God’s family
Romans 10:13 says,
“for, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Once you’ve asked Jesus to cleanse you of your sins and become your Lord and Saviour you are now justified by faith, adopted into God’s family, and a new creation in Christ!
7. You have now passed from death to life
Romans 10:9 says,
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.
Now that you have confessed (said it) with your mouth and believed in your heart and received Jesus as your Lord, you are saved. You have the assurance of faith that you have now passed from death to new life in Christ and will spend all eternity with God.
