When you become a Christian you receive salvation by putting your faith in Jesus. You are now adopted into God’s family and your number one goal now is to grow in your relationship with God. This means that you need to build your faith in God. But you might be thinking, “How do I build my faith”? Let’s take a closer look at that now.
Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
FAITH COMES FROM HEARING THE WORD OF GOD
These two verses help us uncover two important truths about how we can build our faith. Firstly, we see from Romans 10:17 that faith comes from hearing the word of God. In other words, when we read and study the Bible we are building our faith in God. Secondly, the verse found in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 helps us to understand why hearing the word builds our faith. All the words in the Bible are from God and they build our faith because God reveals Himself and His character through everything that has been recorded in the Bible.
This is important because remember that the more deeply you know someone, the more you will trust them. As you get to know God more deeply by reading your Bible, so too your trust in Him will grow. The two go hand in hand. And as you trust God more you will follow the teachings and instructions in the Bible.
Today, I want to encourage each one of us, whether we are new believers or have been followers of Jesus for a while to make it our priority to study the Bible. Make it your highest priority to spend time with Jesus daily and study the word so that you can build rock-solid faith in God. We will need it in the days ahead of the end times.
